The Supreme Court Collegium has taken a significant step to address the acute shortage of judges at the Allahabad High Court, by recommending the appointment of two advocates as judges.
At a meeting held on March 25, the Collegium proposed the elevation of
Amitabh Kumar Rai
Rajiv Lochan Shukla
to the esteemed bench of the Allahabad High Court.
This decision comes at a crucial time, as the High Court faces a dire shortage of judges. Despite an approved strength of 160 judges, the court has been operating with merely 79 judges as of March 1. This shortfall has been a challenge, impacting the timely delivery of justice in one of the busiest High Courts in the country.
